Leeroy Thornhill is one of the founders of the Prodigy, but after 10 years in the band, numerous world hits and tours, he began his solo career as a DJ and producer.

Leeroy considers himself a cosmopolitan artist and in his DJ sets you can feel the influence of various musical trends, masterfully mixed with both new sounds and some classic styles in music.

He produces and remixes music for various artists and DJs such as David Gray, The Ting Tings, Darren Emerson, Maxim (Prodigy), Dr. Doom (KoolKeith) and Dub Pistols.

He partners with DJ Hyper, as well as with German DJ and producer Marten Hörger, with whom he creates the Smash HiFi formation.

In 2016, they recorded the album “Order More Disorder,” part of which the automotive giant KIA used to soundtrack its commercials. In 2017, Smash HiFi were a fixture on festival stages, including Glastonbury.

This is just a small part of Leeroy Thornhill’s biography, but it’s enough to make sure that one of the musical titans of the 90s is arriving in Burgas especially for the SPICE Music Festival (August 6-8, 2021).

Hello, Leeroy. You already have enough fans in Bulgaria, but also quite a few who will hear your music for the first time. Can you somehow describe to them what’s coming when you get on stage?

I’ve already been to Bulgaria – an impressive country with wonderful, friendly people! I always have a lot of fun during my performances in Bulgaria – the audience is so excited and manages to capture the energy of my music very accurately! So it’s a huge pleasure for me and I can’t wait to meet you all at SPICE Music Festival 2021.

And what will happen on stage? There will be music filled with a lot of positive energy and we will travel through different styles. I hope people remember this meeting of ours and that it remains one of the coolest parties we’ve ever been to.

SPICE Music Festival is once again dedicated to the music of the 90s this year – what, in your opinion, makes it so unique and special for the third decade?

The music of the 90s was fresh, new. Dance music was much more than just a sound – a whole movement, a style. For a long time it was underground music – television and the media had no idea that this new sound had emerged and was about to take over the charts. And the mixing of styles managed to unite different people in one rhythm at every party. That’s why I still can’t single out a single song, band, or concert that I could call my “favorite” from the 90s – it was all a matter of skillfully combining styles, which is why my memories bring together many small details from those years. Freedom to party – I think this motto best describes the 90s.

What inspires you to continue creating today?

The Originality. I haven’t stopped creating music – I released two albums during the lockdown, and I’m also finishing new tracks that I’ll release this summer.

It’s obvious that the way we have fun is also changing – online parties have become a completely normal thing, but I’m sure that music was a significant factor in helping people overcome the situation we’ve had to go through over the last year and a half.

Still, I hope to be back on stage soon and I’m excited to be a part of the SPICE Music Festival this summer. So – be positive, live life to the fullest and get ready to party in Burgas!
